How to shorten the rope

On glacier tours, we often need to adjust the distance between us. For example, when we’re crossing a glacier, we try to keep as much distance as possible because of crevasses. But when the terrain gets steep or we’re moving along a ridge, we need to stay closer together.

Changing the rope length can take some time—especially for beginners, who usually take a bit longer. In this video, I’ll show you how to make a “rope reserve” on your shoulder using the Swiss method.
