The Silent Alps: 7 Days of Hiking, With the Sky as a Roof and Hay as a Bed
7 Days of Silence and Forgotten Trails
Looking for an authentic experience in the Swiss Alps? 🇨🇭
A mountain enthusiast wants to explore Switzerland on a 7-day trekking tour between June and August – simple, peaceful, and free of unnecessary luxury.
🌿 And I’m looking for a group to join him.
What are we doing?
🛖 We’ll sleep in hay twice, once in a mountain hut, and three times in 3-star hotels.
🧀 We mostly eat local products – for example, freshly milked milk.
🚠 We travel only by public transport – trains, cable cars, buses, and boats.
💧 Visiting glacial lakes, waterfalls, and breathtaking viewpoints – without crowds or waiting
🔔 Instead of horns: cowbells and silence
🌌 At night, we stargaze from alpine meadows, in complete quiet
📵 Sometimes there’s no signal. Just perfect.
🔑 The only condition?
To promise yourself that, even though it’s a vacation, you’ll do the most important “job” of your life:
to take the silence of the Swiss Alps deep into your soul – and bring it back home. 🏡
Price includes
- Accommodation (in “hay hotels”, holiday cottages, or 3-star hotels)
- Breakfast and dinner (usually fresh local products prepared by the locals themselves)
- Transport in Switzerland (including trains with cable cars or cogwheel trains, cable cars, and ski lifts)
- All costs for the local guide
- Unlimited 5G WiFi (via hotspot provided by the local guide)
Price doesn't include
- Transport to and from Switzerland
- Lunch, drinks
Sleeping in a hotel or on hay? What do you choose: predictable comfort or unforgettable memories?
🏨 A hotel gives you standardized comfort: perfect beds, clean rooms, sealed windows, and everything you might need. But this very perfection often makes it forgettable. Wherever you go, it looks the same — and often, you don’t even remember it afterward.
🌾 Sleeping on hay? That’s a different world. It’s typical for Switzerland, beloved for its authenticity and connection to nature.
A real barn, carefully prepared for guests. A soft bed of hay, the scent of old wood, and fresh mountain air. Warm showers, homemade breakfast, and absolute silence. Nature is all around — not just printed on a wall.
💚 You don’t just pay less. You get more soul.
📸 You don’t just book a bed. You create memories.
🌟 You don’t just sleep. You live a story.
It’s not for everyone. But if you’re longing for a real and simple experience, just like in childhood or old tales, it’s worth trying — at least once.

Day 1
We meet at the airport in Basel or Zurich ideally before noon. If time allows, we’ll take a stroll through Zurich, and perhaps even stop in Lucerne, known as “the jewel of Switzerland,” a postcard-perfect town with charming architecture. By evening, we’ll reach Heidi’s Land by train, where our adventure begins. The first night is spent in a 3-star hotel overlooking Lake Walensee, with fresh mountain air all around and a peacefulness that’s hard to put into words.
-
Day 2
Our first hike takes us up to Leistkamm at 2101 m (an elevation gain of 760 m), a peak with a breathtaking view. On the way back, we’ll have lunch at a local restaurant or on your own, then continue by train to Central Switzerland. We’ll stay in our first “hay hotel” in Brunnen, on the shores of Lake Urner. Nature is right inside your room — literally!
-
Day 3
Depending on the weather and your preferences, we choose between two spectacular spots: Urmiberg at 1395 m, reachable by foot or cable car, or Fronalpstock at 1921 m, accessed by the world’s steepest funicular and a chairlift. Whichever you choose, the beauty of the place will accompany us every step of the way. We spend the night again in Brunnen at the same “hay hotel.”
-
Day 4
The next day, we explore Sisikon and then Unterschächen using public transport. From there, we can take a cable car either to the hamlet of Sittlisalp at 1600 m or to the Swiss Diary Museum at 1850 m — a journey into traditional pastoral life. Not far away is the Stäubi waterfall, one of the most spectacular in Switzerland. In the evening, we gently ascend on foot or by a small cable car (with an elevation gain of 611 m) to the second “hay hotel” at 1587 m, offering a fairytale view. Alternatively, we can spend the night in a mountain cabin (without hay), also located in a spectacular area at 1600 m.
-
Day 5
We cross the Alps on a scenic train route through Andermatt to Saas-Fee, known as the Pearl of the Alps. In the evening, we can make a short visit to Zermatt — although busy, it remains iconic. We spend the night in a 3-star hotel.
-
Day 6
Next comes another unforgettable day: we take the gondola up to Hohsaas at 3,142 m, where we can admire 18 peaks over 4,000 m, then descend by gondola. After that, we ride the cable car up to Längfluh (2,869 m) and hike down to Saas-Fee (1,800 m) — a truly spectacular route! In the evening, we return to the 3-star hotel.
-
Day 7
On the last day, we head to Zurich by train, choosing based on time and interest between several options: a walk through the Jungfrau region with a hike from Stechelberg to Mürren, a climb to Rigi Kulm – “the queen of the mountains” – or a visit to the Swiss Open-Air Museum. We say goodbye in Zurich city or directly at the airport.
