The Silent Alps: 7 Days of Hiking, With the Sky as a Roof and Hay as a Bed
7 Days of Silence and Forgotten Trails
Looking for an authentic experience in the Swiss Alps? 🇨🇭
A young mountain enthusiast wants to explore Switzerland for about 7 days, on a trekking tour between June and August – simple, peaceful, without unnecessary luxury.
🌿 And I’m looking for a small group – maximum 6 people – to join him.
What are we doing?
🛖 Sleeping in hay, mountain huts or modest cabins – no crowds, no fancy hotels
🧀 Eating local products – like fresh milk straight from the cow
🚠 Traveling only by public transport – trains, cable cars, buses
💧 Visiting glacial lakes, waterfalls, and breathtaking viewpoints – without crowds or waiting
🔔 Instead of horns: cowbells and silence
🌌 At night, we stargaze from alpine meadows, in complete quiet
📵 Sometimes there’s no signal. Just perfect.
🔑 The only condition?
To promise yourself that, even though it’s a vacation, you’ll do the most important “job” of your life:
to take the silence of the Swiss Alps deep into your soul – and bring it back home. 🏡
Price includes
- Accommodation (in "hay hotels", holiday homes or huts)
- Breakfast and dinner (fresh local products prepared by the locals)
- Transport in Switzerland (including trains with cable cars or cogwheel trains, cable cars, and ski lifts)
- All costs for the local guide
- Unlimited 5G WiFi (via hotspot provided by the local guide)
Price doesn't include
- Transport to and from Switzerland
- Lunch, drinks
Sleeping in a hotel or on hay? What do you choose: predictable comfort or unforgettable memories?
🏨 A hotel gives you standardized comfort: perfect beds, clean rooms, sealed windows, and everything you might need. But this very perfection often makes it forgettable. Wherever you go, it looks the same — and often, you don’t even remember it afterward.
🌾 Sleeping on hay? That’s a different world. It’s typical for Switzerland, beloved for its authenticity and connection to nature.
A real barn, carefully prepared for guests. A soft bed of hay, the scent of old wood, and fresh mountain air. Warm showers, homemade breakfast, and absolute silence. Nature is all around — not just printed on a wall.
💚 You don’t just pay less. You get more soul.
📸 You don’t just book a bed. You create memories.
🌟 You don’t just sleep. You live a story.
It’s not for everyone. But if you’re longing for a real and simple experience, just like in childhood or old tales, it’s worth trying — at least once.

-
Day 1
We meet at Basel or Zurich airport — ideally before noon. If time allows, we take a stroll through Zurich and maybe even stop in Lucerne, dubbed “the jewel of Switzerland,” a postcard-perfect town with charming architecture. In the evening, we take the train to Heidi’s Land, where our adventure begins. We spend the first night in hay, in a traditional barn right on the shore of Lake Walen — a peaceful place with deep blue waters and mountains reflected in silence.
-
Day 2
Our first hike takes us up to Leistkamm at 2101 m (elevation gain 760 m), a peak with breathtaking views. On the way back, we have lunch at a local restaurant or prepare it ourselves, then continue by train to Central Switzerland. After a light climb (302 m gain), we reach our second “hay hotel” at 1452 m, with a dreamlike panorama – alpine lakes just like in Swiss calendars.
-
Day 3
We descend toward the small town of Schwyz through green meadows and grazing cows (elevation loss 841 m), then choose, based on weather and preferences, between two spectacular spots: Urmiberg at 1395 m on foot or by cable car, or Fronalpstock at 1921 m via the steepest funicular in the world and a chairlift. Either way, the beauty of the place will follow us at every step. We stay overnight in Brunnen, a charming village, again in a hay hotel.
-
Day 4
The next day we explore Sisikon and then Unterschächen by public transport. From here, we can go up either by cable car to the hamlet of Sittlisalp at 1600 m, or to the Swiss Alpine Farming Museum at 1850 m — a journey into traditional pastoral life. Not far is the Stäubi waterfall, one of the most spectacular in Switzerland. In the evening, we walk or take a small cable car (elevation gain 611 m) to our fourth “hay hotel” at 1587 m, with a fairy-tale view.
-
Day 5
We cross the Alps on a panoramic train route via Andermatt to the hamlet of Randa, right in front of the majestic Weisshorn (4505 m). In the evening, we can visit Zermatt — despite being busy, it remains iconic. We spend the night in a cozy holiday home in Randa.
-
Day 6
A new memorable day awaits: we take gondolas up to Hohsaas at 3142 m, where we can admire 18 peaks over 4000 m, and descend the same way. Then we go up with gondolas to Längfluh (2869 m) and hike down to Saas-Fee (1800 m) — a spectacular route! In the evening, we return to our little house in Randa.
-
Day 7
On the last day, we head to Zurich by train, choosing based on time and interest between several options: a walk through the Jungfrau region with a hike from Stechelberg to Mürren, a climb to Rigi Kulm – “the queen of the mountains” – or a visit to the Swiss Open-Air Museum. We say goodbye in Zurich city or directly at the airport.
